Ingredients

  • 1 lb 450g fresh crab meat
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs panko or regular
  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp Old Bay seasoning
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • 1/2 tsp lemon zest optional
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley optional
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Oil for frying vegetable or canola oil

Instructions

Prepare the Crab Meat:

  • Gently pick through the crab meat to remove any shells or cartilage. Pat the meat dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.

Mix the Ingredients:

  • In a large bowl, combine the crab meat, breadcrumbs, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, Old Bay seasoning, minced garlic, lemon zest, egg, parsley, salt, and pepper. Gently mix until everything is evenly combined.

Shape the Crab Balls:

  • Scoop about 1 tablespoon of the mixture and roll it into a ball. Repeat until all the mixture is used, forming about 12-16 balls.

Cook the Crab Balls:

  • For Baking: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the crab balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden and crispy.
  • For Frying: Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Fry the crab balls in batches, about 3-4 minutes per side, until golden and crispy. Drain on paper towels.

Serve:

  • Serve your crab balls hot with your favorite dipping sauce, such as tartar sauce, cocktail sauce, or garlic butter.
